CAF Champions League: Sundowns Into The Semis

Mamelodi Sundowns are heading to the CAF Champions League semi-finals after battling Esperance to a goalless tie on Tuesday, 8 April.
The two sides met in the second leg of the tournament’s quarter-finals, which took place in front of predominantly Esperance fans at Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Tunis, Tunisia.
As the visiting team, Sundowns had their work cut out for them, knowing they needed to maintain their 1-0 aggregate lead from the first leg.
Throughout the match, the Tunisians’ spirited attack strategy kept Sundowns on their toes; in return, the Brazilians doubled down on their defense, largely due to the immaculate goalkeeping efforts of Ronwen Williams.
In the 63rd minute, it looked like Sundowns’ CAF Champions League dreams were about to crumble when Esperance’s Achref Jabi successfully converted a long ball into a goal. Fortunately for the South African outfit, Jabi’s goal was ruled offside by the video assistant referee.
Ultimately, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. However, as a result of their aggregate lead, Sundowns are the ones advancing to the semi-finals, where they will meet Al Ahly in the first leg next Friday, 18 April.
